Fungal Culture Vaginal Test
Synonyms
FVAG, Fungi Culture, Fungal Culture Vaginal Test
Purpose
The vaginal fungal culture identifies fungal infections such as candidiasis, which commonly cause abnormal discharge, itching, and irritation in your vaginal area. During the test, doctors can perform a vaginal swab to detect bacterial pathogens that may accompany the fungal infection.
In addition, if your fungal infection is recurrent, the doctor can also perform a urine culture to help role out UTIs that may increase your vulnerability to vaginal fungal infections. This combination will provide targeted treatment and symptom relief by identifying the fungi and bacteria responsible.

Diseases / Diagnostic Indicators
The common cause of vagina fungal infections is a vaginal yeast infection, also known as vaginal candidiasis. Common symptoms of vaginal yeast infections include redness, thick white discharge, burning sensation, and itching. A vaginal fungal culture helps identify the exact fungus causing the infection. This allows doctors to provide effective treatment where standard antifungal treatments have failed.
