Cortisol Blood Test

Purpose
Cortisol Blood Test measures the amount of cortisol in blood.
Patient Preparation
The patient should avoid taking biotin supplements at least 72 hours to sample collection.
Samples
1ml with a minimum volume of 0.7ml of serum collected in a red top tube or gel barrier tube. Transfer separated serum to a plastic transport tube if a red top tube is used. Blood should be drawn between 8am and 4pm to evaluate baseline diurnal variation. Store sample at room temperature.
Reference Range
AM:6.2-19.4µg/dL; PM:2.3-11.9µg/dL
Results Turnaround
Within 24 hours of receipt of samples.
