Purpose
Hemoglobin (Hb) Level test is done to check haemoglobin levels in the blood.
Patient Preparation
There is no special preparation required for this test.
Samples
4 ml of whole blood should be collected in EDTA tube (purple top). Samples should be mixed gently by inverting eight times immediately after collection. For proper mixing of blood with the EDTA. Samples should be refrigerated if sampling is not done within 24hrs.
Reference Range
Women: 11.6 – 15 g/dL
Men: 13.2 – 16.6 g/dL
Kids: 10.5 – 13.5
Results Turnaround
Within 24 hours after sample collection.

This is a screening test for polycythaemia, anaemia, blood loss and dehydration.
