Human Genome Sequencing

Whole Genome Sequencing in Kenya

Whole genome sequencing analyzes your entire DNA makeup and identifies gene variants associated with disease, physical features, ancestry, fitness levels, among others.

Human whole genome sequencing is important for the following reasons:

Allows you to understand your genetic susceptibility to certain medical conditions, and how to lower your level of risk through healthy lifestyle choices, can help prevent diseases from manifesting later in life.

Enables the discovery of rare and undiagnosed genetic diseases.

Provides information that helps you structure your weight loss program and gives you actionable advice on training, sports, fitness and physical activity.

Gives you a deeper understanding of your ancestral origin.

Required Samples

A cheek swab is enough for the human whole genome sequencing test. Other acceptable samples include:

Dried-blood spots

Whole blood

HEREDITARY CANCER SCREENING

KIBs provides sequencing services for the detection of cancer. Gene sequencing identifies genetics mutations associated with cancer susceptibility. We provide an extensive portfolio of 19 hereditary cancer panels. Each panel focuses on a specific set of genes that have high susceptibility to cancer predisposing syndromes, that in turn have increased risk of causing cancer.

Hereditary cancer screening is recommended for the following people:

Family members with cancer in the same side of the family

Multiple cancers in the same family member

Family members with early cancer onset

Family members with rare cancer types

A family member that has been diagnosed with a genetic mutation that has cancer susceptibility

Personal or family history of a hereditary cancer syndrome

Why Test with us?

What information is reported in the test report?

  • The variant data collected is analyzed.
  • All clinically significant variants that are classified as pathogenic or likely pathogenic as identified in the latest clinical and scientific publications and databases are reported.
  • Variants that are identified with unknown significance but fall within a protein-coding region and are predicted to effect a protein change are also reported.
  • Please note, benign and likely benign variants, as well as Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) are not reported.
